Villanova-West Virginia preview

West Virginia will face its toughest challenge of the year when it meets Villanova on Friday.

The Wildcats, who are led by player-of-the-year candidate Jalen Brunson, are currently a 5.5-point favorite against the Mountaineers. But West Virginia has looked dominated so far in the NCAA Tournament, beating No. 12-seed Murray State 85-68 in Round 1 and No. 13-seed Marshall 94-71 to advance to the Sweet 16.

The Mountaineers are led by Jevon Carter, one of the nation’s best defenders. Carter is the team’s top scorer, but he also the likes of Daxter Miles Jr. and Sagaba Konate to fall back on for help on offense.

Konate is also a terror on defense. He’s averaging 3.2 blocks per game, as well as 7.6 rebounds.

The Mountaineers have faltered on a few of its bigger stages late in the season, but it’s been a wacky March so far where the possibilities are endless.

Purdue-Texas Tech preview

Texas Tech had a close call against Florida, but picked up a 69-66 win to advance to the Sweet 16. Now, the Red Raiders are up against a gritty Purdue team in the Sweet 16.

Texas Tech is led by Keenan Evans, who emerged as one of the best players in the Big 12 this season.

The Red Raiders looked like a legitimate Big 12 championship contender from the start of conference play and they continued to play at a high level throughout the course of the season.

Texas Tech is having one of its best seasons in program history. But to keep its season alive, coach Chris Beard’s group will have to overcome a tough Boilermakers team.

Purdue, who’s a 1.5-point favorite, squeaked past Butler in the Round of 32 and did it without the help of big man Isaac Haas. Matt Haarms did a nice job filling in, however, for Haas.

Purdue’s size inside will be tough to combat, but Evans, Jarrett Culver and Zhaire Smith give the Red Raiders a chance to win any game.
