Coach Mike Boynton’s group looked motivated enough on Tuesday against Florida Gulf Coast, and they’ll be back at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Monday for their second-round tilt with Stanford.
The Cardinal struggled with thier brutal nonconference slate. The Cardinal lost by 24 points to North Carolina, 21 points to Florida and 21 points to Kansas. The Cardinal’s most notable win was an 86-77 victory over Arizona State, who was eliminated in the First Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Stanford is led in scoring and rebounding by junior Reid Travis. The 6-foot-8 forward is scoring 19.6 points per game, while shooting 53.2 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from the perimeter. Travis is also bringing down 8.7 boards per game.
Stanford’s played much better basketball after finishing its nonconference slate, but the Pac-12 Conference wasn’t nearly as strong as the rest of the country. Oklahoma State, on the other hand, had to battle the likes of Kansas and West Virginia on a regular basis.
And in case anyone forgot, the Cowboys beat the Jayhawks twice and knocked off the Mountaineers in Morgantown, W. Va.
Stanford hasn’t shown the same poise in big games as Oklahoma State. The biggest key will be stopping Travis, who scored 25 against BYU,
