Penn State basketball now has seven straight NIT Tournament wins
and got its third of this year with an 85-80 win over No. 2 seed Marquette on the road on Tuesday night.
The No. 4 seed Nittany Lions now advance to the 2018 NIT Tournament semifinals next Tuesday at Madison Square Garden where
they will take on the winner of No. 2 seed Louisville and No. 4 seed Mississippi State.

Lamar Stevens led the way for the Lions with a dominant night, shooting 14-of-22 for 30 points, while Tony Carr had 25
points and seven assists and Shep Garner was 5-of-8 from 3-point land for 19 points.
The Lions (24-13) and Golden Eagles started off deadlocked, trading 3’s and went into the end of the first quarter
with the visitors up 25-22. The Lions then pulled away a bit in the second quarter and went into the break up 41-34 before
building on that in the second half, going up by 14 in the fourth quarter before the home team fought back into it, cutting
the lead to three points late but the Lions held on.
Andrew Rowsey had 29 points for the Golden Eagles in the loss.
The 24 wins are the most for the Lions since going 27-11 in 2008-09 and only the third time they have eclipsed 23 wins
in program history. They won the NIT that 08-09 season in the last time they appeared in the tournament.
