Alabama football: Nick Saban, Alabama players give opinions on cut blocks; Texas A&M preparation begins

Alabama football drives the conversation here at the Rammer JammerSEC Country’s daily Alabama athletics recap, but we’ll cover news for every facet of the Crimson Tide. Every morning, we’ll be here for the latest on Alabama football, basketball and every sport on campus.

Legal or illegal?

In the wake of Da’Shawn Hand’s injury, cut blocks were a topic of discussion on Monday. Hand, who has a confirmed MCL sprain, is highly questionable after taking a low cut block to the left knee in Alabama’s win against Ole Miss. After the block, some took to Twitter to debate whether the block was legal.

Nick Saban, along with multiple Alabama players, voiced their opinions on whether the block was legal. Linebacker Anfernee Jennings said defenders are not a fan of the low blocks that they receive in games.

“We hate it,” Jennings said. “Every defender hates a cut block. But it’s part of the game.”

Two different views of the play have caused most of the arguments over the nature of the block. Even though he said it was legal, Saban has been adamant about cut blocks being removed from college football.

Making an impact

Former walk-on cornerback Levi Wallace received his first SEC Defensive Player of the Week award after his performance against Ole Miss. Wallace had 2 interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown to give Alabama a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Wallace, so far, is tied for the SEC lead in interceptions (3) and ranks second in pass deflections (9). Even with recent accolades, Wallace remained humble when talking about his play.

Can anyone stop them?

That seems to be the opinion of multiple media personalities. Both Colin Cowherd and Clay Travis took to the airwaves to state that Clemson and Alabama were head and shoulders above the rest of the nation. Both teams are coming off impressive wins over conference opponents. Our own Marq Burnett discussed the domination that could occur in Alabama’s October schedule in Off the Marq.
