FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas men’s basketball team solidified its place on the right side of the so-called bubble of the NCAA Tournament with a win Tuesday night against South Carolina. The work, however, isn’t finished yet.
Arkansas hosts Vanderbilt on Saturday night at Bud Walton Arena. There are too many things going against the Razorbacks for them to lose to Vandy. Meaning, considering the game is at home, the Hogs are on the edge of not making the Dance and the Commodores are the last-place team in the SEC, Arkansas cannot afford to lose without, almost definitely, winning a game it will be predicted to lose later in the season.
Vanderbilt has been better lately. Georgia, a team Arkansas struggled with but ultimately beat by 3 points in January, lost to the Commodores by 15 just earlier this week. Before that, Vandy lost three of five, but beat TCU and LSU (which beat Arkansas twice) and lost to Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee — arguably the three best teams in the SEC — by 12, 2 and 5. Not exactly blowouts.
Arkansas should win Saturday. Arkansas could really use a win Saturday. It won’t be as easy as Vandy’s slotting in the SEC table might suggest.

Arkansas heads to a one-off game in Oxford, Miss., against Ole Miss on Tuesday. The Razorbacks won the teams’ meeting earlier this season 97-93 in Fayetteville. The Rebels (4-7) are just a game behind Arkansas in the league standings, but also just a game above last-place Vanderbilt as of Saturday morning.
