Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook . In this edition, we discuss the Hogs’ recruitment of a 2018 tight end, a recent visitor and more.
Arkansas pushing hard for TE Glenn Beal
Arkansas is one of three schools recruiting 2018 tight end Glenn Beal the hardest. The Hogs are joined on that list by Alabama and LSU, Beal recently told SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman.
Beal is a 3-star recruit and the top tight end prospect in Louisiana according to the 247Sports composite. He attends John Curtis High School in River Ridge, La., a New Orleans suburb. The three programs mentioned above are in his current top 6 along with with Ole Miss, Oregon and UCLA.
He indicated to Spiegelman that he is evaluating how his top choices are using tight ends this fall to help him make a decision. That’s obviously a good sign for the Razorbacks’ chances. Arkansas tight ends are averaging 50 yards per game this season. That’s more than Alabama (18.2) and LSU (29.8) tight ends are averaging combined.
Beal visited Arkansas over the summer and was blown away by the trip. He is expected to take an official visit to Fayetteville at some point between now and National Signing Day in early February. He intended to wait until that date (Feb. 7) to announce his commitment and sign.
South Carolina offers Arkansas QB commit Ty Evans
Arkansas 2019 quarterback commit Ty Evans has received an offer from South Carolina. Coincidentally, the Hogs will play the Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C., this Saturday.
South Carolina extended the offer to the 3-star prospect Monday. Evans clarified that this development in no way changes his standing with Arkansas. He also holds offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas State and Northwestern.
Evans is in the middle of a prolific junior season at Palmer Ridge (Monument, Colo.). Most recently, he completed 15 of his 26 attempts for 327 yards and 5 total touchdowns in a win last Friday. He’s averaging 4 passing touchdowns a game through five games this season. He has led Palmer Ridge to a 5-0 start for the first time in school history.
One to watch for 2019: RB Kadyn Roach
If you aren’t already, Arkansas fans should be keeping an eye on Magnolia (Ark.) running back Kadyn Roach. He’s emerging as one of the top 2019 recruits in the Natural State and has a keen interest in the Razorbacks.
Roach took an unofficial visit to campus last Saturday to watch the Hogs’ 42-24 victory over New Mexico State. He is being recruited by tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr., Arkansas’ primary in-state recruiter, and running backs coach Reggie Mitchell. Both of whom he referred to as “great coaches” in a recent Twitter post.
Roach is a 3-star prospect who also is a talented basketball player. As a sophomore last season, he had 167 carries for 1,412 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had 14 carries for 190 yards and 2 scores last Friday.
