Arkansas set to host several big-time recruiting targets this weekend

Welcome to SEC Country’s  daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook . In this edition, we discuss the weekend visitors and a possibly 2020 quarterback target.

Arkansas set for important recruiting weekend

Arkansas turned its full attention to the 2019 recruiting class just two weeks ago following National Signing Day. With 2018 recruiting done, the Razorbacks are set for one of their biggest recruiting weekends of the 2019 cycle.

The Hogs are expected to host many top targets in the 2019 class over the weekend. At least six of the players expected on campus are rated as 4-star prospects by the 247Sports composite.

As of Wednesday evening, here are some of the top 2019 targets who are expected to be on campus:

  • S Jalen Catalon, 4 stars, Mansfield (Texas) Legacy
  • DE Collin Clay, 3 stars, Putnam City (Oklahoma City)
  • S/WR Ty DeArman, 3 stars, Bowie (Arlington, Texas)
  • WR Demariyon Houston, 4 stars, Millwood (Oklahoma City)
  • TE Hudson Henry, 4 stars, Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.)
  • DT Enoch Jackson, 3 stars , Mansfield (Texas) Legacy
  • WR T.Q. Jackson, 3 stars, Jefferson (Texas)
  • WR Devonta Lee, 4 stars, Amite (La.)
  • RB Marcus Major, 3 stars, Millwood (Oklahoma City)
  • LB NaNa Osafo-Mensah, 4 stars, Nolan Catholic (Fort Worth, Texas)
  • OL Stacey Wilkins, 3 stars, Camden (Ark.) Fairview
  • DT Carl Williams, 3 stars, Lufkin (Texas)
  • DE Zach Williams, 3 stars, Joe T. Robinson (Little Rock, Ark.)
  • WR Dylan Wright, 4 stars,West Mesquite (Texas)

The top recruit on this list is wide receiver Devonta Lee. He’s been recruited to Arkansas by both the previous and current coaching staffs. He’s the No. 50 overall recruit and No. 7 wide receiver in the class.

Jalen Catalon, Demariyon Houston, NaNa Osafo-Mensah and Dylan Wright are also expected visitors who are among the top 200 overall recruits in the class. Marcus Major is rapidly trending toward that same status as one of the most impressive running back prospects in the class.

In-state defensive end Zach Williams is making his second trip to Fayetteville in two weeks. He’s receiving interest from several top programs and is likely someone the Hogs are hoping to secure a commitment from early. Arkansas has no commitments in the 2019 class, but that could change very soon with Williams back on campus.

Tight end Hudson Henry and offensive lineman Stacey Wilkins are among the other in-state recruits with offers set to visit. Both are at the top of Arkansas’ priority list at their positions.

Wide receiver Jordan Johnson in the 2020 class also is expected to be on campus. Johnson attends De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis. He has offers from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa State, Kentucky, Nebraska and Notre Dame.

Athlete Malachi Moore, another 2020 prospect, also is expected in Fayetteville. He attends Hewitt-Trussville High School near Birmingham, Ala., where he was a teammate of 2018 safety signee Myles Mason. He has offers from Arkansas, Florida, Louisville, Kentucky, Oregon, Tennessee and several other FBS programs.

Expect the list of known visitors to grow between now and Saturday. This is shaping up to be Arkansas’ most impressive list of visitors over one weekend in years.

2020 QB Jacolby Criswell on Arkansas’ radar

Arkansas is beginning to show interest in 2020 quarterback Jacolby Criswell. From Morrilton (Ark.), he is projected to be among the top prospects from Arkansas in his class.

Criswell (6-foot-1, 208 pounds) is a dual-threat talent who operates out of a spread offense at Morrilton. Those factors make him a particularly attractive option to play in Morris’ system at Arkansas.

The Razorbacks are yet to extended an offer to him. His FBS offers to this point include Arkansas State and South Alabama.

In 12 games as a sophomore, Criswell threw for 1,947 yards and 20 touchdowns with 4 interceptions. He also rushed for 969 yards and 14 more scores.
