For the second straight weekend, this time on the road, Auburn baseball will face a top 10 team in Kentucky.
The Wildcats are currently No. 6 in the nation, though they lost each of their first three conference games to Arkansas.
Butch Thompson’s team started the season hot and has continued to prove it can compete with the best of the best in the college baseball world. Auburn’s 19 wins are tied for the second most in the nation and the Tigers’ 86.4 winning percentage is tied for fourth best in the country.
Kentucky offers various challenges at the plate and on the mound. The Wildcats are the only team in the nation with three players who’ve hit at least 9 homers so far this season. On top of that, Kentucky ranks second in the country in slugging average (.533) and fifth in on-base average (.433) and runs (190).
While Auburn will let Casey Mize command the mound on Friday, Kentucky will feature Sean Hjelle, the defending SEC Pitcher of the Year. Kentucky’s ace is 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA while giving up 18 hits in 30 inning pitched so far this season.
