AUBURN, Ala. — More unsettling events unfolded for Auburn basketball over the weekend.
Center Austin Wiley, who was sidelined by a stress fracture during the Tigers’ trip to Italy in early August, is back in a protective boot.
Despite the recent arrest and corruption allegations brought against associate head coach Chuck Person — two unnamed players were involved in a complaint from the federal government — head coach Bruce Pearl said the injury is “all basketball related” and has nothing to do with the ongoing investigation.
The sophomore started to feel discomfort in his left leg during a workout on Saturday. Pearl, who was celebrating the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur, was not present.
“There was not an incident that created the pain,” Pearl said. “He began to feel the tightness, the soreness and the pain and so we shut him down. So he doesn’t remember any kind of an incident.”
