Auburn football is picking up speed and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.
The Tigers throttled Mississippi State in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday night in an electric atmosphere, further solidifying their place as a top SEC team.
Following the 49-10 win over the No. 24 Bulldogs Auburn moved from No. 15 to No. 13 in the Amway coaches poll.
Auburn’s defense stifled quarterback Nick Fitzgerald and other Mississippi State playamkers in one of its most dominant, complete performances of the season. After stressing turnovers for the better part of Kevin Steele’s time on the Plains, senior Tray Matthews and sophomore Javaris Davis came up with an interception each. And as usual, Auburn’s defensive front set the tone.
When the Tigers had possession of the football they put on a show. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham continues to become more comfortable in his new home and his offense is falling in line behind him.
Auburn’s upcoming schedule will provide more opportunities for key players to rest and for the Tigers to keep building during what could end up being an impressive stretch. Malzahn’s team is trending upwards just as it did after a rocky start to the 2016 season.
SEC Country will update this story when the AP poll is published later in the day.
