Auburn’s scorching start has landed Butch Thompson’s ball club in the college baseball national rankings for the first time this season.
On Monday, the Tigers claimed the No. 25 spot in the Baseball America Top 25. The poll appearance comes after eight straight wins to open the season, which includes victories over Troy, Georgia State and a trio of wins over Longwood. Auburn is unranked in the Division I baseball poll.
It’s just the sixth time in program history that Auburn baseball has started a season 8-0 and is one of the best starts in almost two decades. Two of the Tigers wins last week were back-to-back one-run games where Auburn was trailing or tied after the eighth inning.
The Tigers host South Alabama in a mid-week Tuesday night game and then welcome BYU for a three-game series this weekend at Plainsman Park.
