Baylor football looks to snap a four-game losing streak on the road against Kansas State at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 30 in Manhattan, Kan.
The Bears played their most complete game of the season on Saturday in a narrow 49-41 loss to No. 3 Oklahoma. Quarterback Zach Smith threw for 463 yards and 4 touchdowns in his best game as a college quarterback. Wide receiver Denzel Mims added 11 catches for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns.
It was an encouraging step for a program still looking for its first win of the season. However, this is not the same team that lost to Liberty. The Bears continue to get better. Coach Matt Rhule would like nothing more to get a win in his first Big 12 road game.
Kansas State had a week to plan for the Bears after a bye. The Wildcats most recently lost on the road against Vanderbilt in Nashville. In the game, Kansas State compiled just 277 yards, including 76 through the air.

Baylor vs. Kansas State preview, keys to the game
- Limit the big play. The big play has been the bane of this team’s existence against Power Five teams. Through two such games, the Bears have allowed 10 touchdowns. Seven of them are on plays of 30 or longer. Just two came from within the red zone – two! When the Bears can line up and play defense, the Bears are surprisingly solid.
- Feed Denzel Mims. Baylor fancies itself to be Wide Receiver U. Denzel Mims flashed the potential to be next in the lineage. He had 11 catches for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns against Oklahoma’s top cornerback Jordan Thomas. He has to play that kind of game every week heading forward for the team to win football games. Especially with Chris Platt out, this becomes a necessity.
- Don’t make mistakes. Bill Snyder teams all have one thing in common – they don’t make mistakes. Baylor has been quite the opposite, letting small mistakes turn into big swings this season. The Bears have to be more consistent, especially when it comes to defensive breakdowns and penalties.
