Bill Self was incredibly complimentary of Texas Tech and head coach Chris Beard after the Jayhawks beat the Red Raiders, 74-72.
Bill Self said, "That's about as good an atmosphere as we've played in. Chris (Beard) has done as good a job as anybody in the country. He should mentioned for national coach of the year."

According to Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Self said that Beard “should be mentioned for national coach of the year.”
Beard has led the Red Raiders to a 22-7 record and a No. 6 ranking in just his second year as Texas Tech’s head coach. Not predicted by many to crack the top half of the Big 12, Texas Tech is on the cusp of finishing No. 2 in conference play, provided they win their final two games. The 2017-2018 season is already one of the most successful in Texas Tech’s history, and we still have the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA Tournament left to be played.
