The media is starting to buy into TCU as a real threat to make the College Football Playoff this season.
Bleacher Report’s Brian Pedersen said he is buying the Horned Frogs as legitimate playoff contenders. He also picked Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and Penn State as having a real shot at the playoff field.
For comparison, he said he is “selling” Ohio State, Michigan, Washington and Wisconsin.
Why is Pedersen so high on the Frogs? A couple of signature wins are really helping their resume.
Wins at Arkansas and Oklahoma State, both of which were no-doubters, has TCU surging. Those wins were fueled by a mix of frustrating defense and a matured Kenny Hill at quarterback. Throw in longtime coach Gary Patterson’s knack for winning big games and the Frogs are dangerous.
B/R has shown TCU lots of love since the Frogs beat Oklahoma State in Week 4. They’ve said the Frogs “must be taken seriously” as a national title threat more than once.
The only reason to be hesitant about TCU so far, according to Pedersen, is the Frogs’ preseason ranking. No team to make the playoff so far was ranked outside the top 19 in the preseason. TCU was unranked to start the year.
But if the Frogs keep winning and add a win against Oklahoma to that resume, and Oklahoma State keeps racking up wins, TCU’s body of work might too good to ignore.
