BREAKING: Auburn WR tears ACL during spring practice

Auburn will be missing one of its key receivers for the rest of the spring.

Sophomore Eli Stove suffered a torn ACL in the Tigers’ last practice before spring break and had surgery on March 13, a person with firsthand knowledge of the situation said.

Stove will miss the remainder of spring practices and the A Day spring game in Jordan-Hare Stadium, but is hopeful with a lot of hard work he will return to the field this fall.

“He understands what he has to do to get back,” the source said. “And he’s just ready to work and get to it.”

The Niceville, Fla., native injured his knee, but walked off the field on his own that day and kept the news quiet for most of the downtime. Stove and his family traveled to Pensacola, Fla., for the surgery, which was performed by Auburn team doctor James Andrews.

Stove’s mindset now is simply to do whatever his teammates need him to do. The feeling is mutual, as several teammates visited Stove at home during spring break. He’s in good spirits despite the disappointing injury. It’s the first major injury of any kind Stove, who was Auburn’s offensive newcomer of the year as a freshman, has suffered.

As a sophomore last season, Stove caught 29 passes for 265 yards. He also added  This is a tough blow for Auburn’s offense, which has been working without quarterback Jarrett Stidham and Ryan Davis, who led all receivers in 2017. Still, however, Stove has been working twice a day with Dr. Andrews and is hopeful he’ll return soon.
