The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were back from spring break for their third practice of spring football on Tuesday and with all eyes on the development of the passing attack coach Brian Kelly reported an encouraging sign from Brandon Wimbush and Miles Boykin.
According to a report from Mike Vorel of the South Bend Tribune, Kelly that the quarterback and wide receiver showed off impressive chemistry on Tuesday.
With both players coming from the Class of 2015, the former 4-star recruits from New Jersey and Illinois, respectively, have now spent four seasons in the program together in Kelly’s offense. So they’ve had a lot of time on the field and in meetings together to develop a rapport together.
However, we still haven’t seen that produce extensive results in game action thus far. Boykin’s MVP performance in the Citrus Bowl was fueled by his play in the second-half with Ian Book replacing Wimbush at quarterback, including their memorable hook-up for the 55-yard game-winning touchdown.
Still, with Boykins stepping into a more prominent role this spring after Equanimeous St. Brown declared for the NFL draft, Kevin Stepherson was dismissed and with Chase Claypool still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, his chemistry with Wimbush and Book is going to be of premium importance.
So Wimbush developing a bond with his fellow classmate could help give him an edge in the quarterback competition.
