CBS Sports projects Texas for ‘First Four’ of NCAA Tournament after win over Oklahoma State

Texas men’s basketball escaped on Saturday with a thrilling 65-64 home win over Oklahoma State — keeping the Longhorns’ NCAA Tournament hopes alive entering the final week of the regular season.

Both Texas and Oklahoma State entered the game with identical records — a default elimination game for all practical purposes. With the Longhorns emerging victorious, CBS Sports has Texas in good shape in its latest projections for the tournament.

Basketball analyst Jerry Palm had the Longhorns as one of the last four teams in the tournament his latest bracketology — projected to face USC in the “First Four.” Palm had the winner advancing to face Kentucky as a No. 12 seed in the East.

The Longhorns are now 7-9 in Big 12 play and 17-12 overall. Texas has remaining games vs No. 8 Kansas and No. 21 West Virginia. The team, however, will be playing without guard Eric Davis Jr. for the foreseeable future after he was tied to documents linked to an FBI probe into corruption within college basketball. Freshman forward Mo Bamba has also been battling a toe injury.
