Clay Travis ranks top 6 choices for Tennessee if Vols move past Butch Jones

Clay Travis has updated his top six choices to replace Butch Jones if Tennessee moves past the coach sometime soon.

Speaking on WJOX 94.5 FM on Tuesday, the analyst dropped an interesting collection of names when asked who can be possibilities for the Vols if Tennessee makes a change. The heat on Jones has increased after the Vols’ embarrassing 41-0 loss to Georgia last Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Check out what Travis said on the radio appearance below.

“My top six, right now, [are] No. 1 Chip Kelly, No. 2 Bob Stoops, No. 3 Bobby Petrino, No. 4 Mike Leach, No. 5 Jeff Brohm at Purdue and No. 6 — this guy is going to surprise some people, but he’s a former Tennessee player, and he’s having a great deal of success in the NFL — Jim Bob Cooter.”

Wow. Where to start with that list?

First off, some of those names seem unreasonable. Stoops has said he’s not interested in coaching. And the optics of Petrino, a former Arkansas coach, returning to the SEC would be bizarre after his infamous end in Fayetteville.

Meanwhile, Kelly might be a possibility if the price is right. Brohm, Leach and Cooter also aren’t pie-in-the-sky options.

It’s unclear if the Tennessee job will open at all. Yes, the Vols are a disappointing 3-2 after losses to Florida and Georgia. Tennessee looked rough in victories against Georgia Tech and Massachusetts as well. But Jones might be given time to turn things around. Whether he succeeds in that task is another question.

Likely, this topic won’t end soon.
