Florida State coach Willie Taggart is living his dream as coach of the Seminoles football team.

He grew up watching some of the NFL’s best talent emerge from Tallahassee. Now in charge of developing the next crop of All-Pro stars, Taggart believes his program can learn a thing or two from those who came before them.

“Those guys and the passion, the love they had for this university. I want all of our players to have that same passion and love for this university,” said Taggart, via Curt Weller of the Tallahassee Democrat.

“If we’re going to be the football team that I would like us to be, they have to understand the guys who came before them and who built this thing. Those guys were important in our tradition and our history here with what they did, what they were a part of, teams they were a part of. I want our guys to know about all of them.”

From meeting with Florida State legend Bobby Bowden to making former Heisman winner Charlie Ward part of the Seminoles program, Taggart is making strides with meshing past legends and the current players.

The next step in the learning process is a challenge Taggart has laid out to his players. He wants his guys to get inspired to be better than where they currently are by reading up on former players who played the same position at Florida State.

For Taggart, playing at Florida State won’t mean just donning the uniform — it will mean loving the university and having passion for the program.

Florida State opens its regular season on September 3 at 8 p.m. ET.
