Dana Holgorsen’s coaching tree now includes a family tree, as Cody Gibson, son of West Virginia defensive coordinator Tony Gibson, is headed to Illinois.
Cody was a graduate assistant with the Mountaineers, working on the offensive side of the ball. At Illinois, he’ll join Lovie Smith’s staff as an offensive quality control coach.
He announced his departure from West Virginia on Twitter:
Crazy day in a crazy profession. Had a blast during my time at WVU working for my home state team. Today I’m heading out to the University of Illinois to be Offensive Quality Control. Excited for this opportunity #HailToTheOrange
