Colin Castleton, a 2018 4-star forward from Daytona Beach, Florida, committed to Michigan basketball on Wednesday.
Castleton made his announcement through a video and article from The Daytona Beach News-Journal, then followed up on his personal Twitter account. He had previously narrowed down his choices to the Wolverines and Illinois.

“This has been the hardest decision of my life and I want to thank every school that has recruited me, gotten to know me personally and gave me an opportunity to play at their university,” Castleton said in the video and online. “I couldn’t appreciate it more. I’m so happy to end this chapter and start a new one and with that being said, I’ll be attending the University of Michigan.”
The video shows clips of Castleton shooting around and dunking before he stops and turns toward the camera, unzips his jacket and reveals a Michigan t-shirt, then says, “Go Blue.”
Castleton is listed by 247Sports as the No. 13 prospect out of Florida and the No. 30 power forward in the country. The 6-foot-10, 215-pound player from Father Lopez averaged 23.3 points, 11 boards and 5.4 blocks per game in his junior year.
Aside from the Fighting Illini, he also had offers from Clemson, Purdue, Rutgers and Georgia, among others.
“I liked the feel, the culture and the coaching staff,” Castleton told the News-Journal of Michigan. “Coach Beilein doesn’t lie, he’s straightforward. He didn’t promise me any playing time or anything like that, but the players are all great.”
He also thanked a number of people from his parents, coaches and classmates.
“From being on JV on freshman year to now having 30 Division I offers and being labeled a 4-star recruit, I want to thank God for blessing me with such a great opportunity to play the sport I love at the collegiate level,” Castleton said in the video.
Castleton is the fifth recruit added to the Wolverines 2018 class that now has two power forwards, a small forward, a shooting guard and a point guard. The class is now the No. 2 class in the nation behind Arizona and No. 1 in the Big Ten.
