Colin Cowherd: Saquon Barkley ‘is not as good as all the analysts are predicting’

Colin Cowherd is not sold on Saquon Barkley.

The FOX Sports analyst criticized the Penn State running back and potential top-5 pick this week, saying Barkley is “not as good as all the analysts are predicting.” Cowherd said it felt like quarterbacks in the draft get overly scrutinized while a running back like Barkley is universally praised.

“Saquon Barkley is now the golden child. You can’t criticize him. He’s amazing. He is a lock. He can’t fail,” Cowherd said in a Wednesday segment.

Cowherd then rattled off five reasons not to draft Barkley, which included the fact Penn State finished 58th in the nation in rushing as a team last season. Barkley finished with 1,271 rushing yards in 2017 and he also caught 54 passes for 632 yards. He also returned kicks are a junior and finished second in the country in all-purpose yards.

Cowherd eventually concluded that Barkley would not be durable enough in the NFL.

“This is not a guy capable of a big work load. We have elevated other players who have just as many holes. Saquon Barkley is just as much Reggie Bush as he is Ezekiel Elliott,” Cowherd said. “…He could very well be your Reggie Bush-level, home run hitting, situational guy. I just picked five holes that as a scout, you’d at least have to acknowledge. There is no perfect player. These quarterbacks are better than the critics are saying. And Barkley is not as good as all the analysts are predicting.”
