IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the sixth consecutive Associated Press poll, Iowa failed to crack the Top 25 on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes’ chance of making the poll vanished when they lost to Michigan State 17-10 on Saturday. Iowa gained votes after losing to No. 4 Penn State on Sept. 23, but that trend wasn’t going to continue after dropping a contest to an unranked foe.
Previous rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR
New rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR
What it means: There is plenty of work for Iowa to do if it is going to be ranked this season. The Hawkeyes must pile up wins and doing so requires a more consistent offense. The lack of a running game was a problem the last 2 losses, and turnovers were a major issue against the Spartans. The Hawkeyes must fix their offense.
What’s next: Iowa (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) hosts Illinois (2-2, 0-1) on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, BTN).
