College football rankings: AP Poll Top 25 features 4 SEC teams after Week 5

The Week 5 AP Top 25  was released by the Associated Press on Sunday. Four SEC teams were listed in the Top 25 after the fifth full weekend of the 2017 football season.

Alabama remained the SEC’s top team following a dominating 66-3 win against Ole Miss at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night.

Georgia turned in perhaps the conference’s best performance of the weekend, flashing brilliance in all facets of the game during a 41-0 road victory at Tennessee. For as good as the Bulldogs looked, Butch Jones’ Vols squad looked equally as bad.

Auburn continued to impress in conference play with a blowout win against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, dropped out of the Top 25 after their second consecutive loss in SEC play.

Florida took care of business at home against Vanderbilt with a 31-17 victory, but the Gators did lose starting QB Luke Del Rio for the season.

LSU turned in the most embarrassing performance of the weekend, dropping a night game in Death Valley to Sun Belt opponent Troy. As a result, Ed Orgeron’s Tigers also dropped out of the rankings this week.

Texas A&M was listed among team receiving votes.

AP POLL HISTORY: PRESEASON | WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4

The Associated Press began its college football poll on Oct. 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season. The preseason poll was started in 1950. Sixty-one members vote in the poll each week.

The 2017 preseason AP Poll placed the Crimson Tide as the top SEC team at No. 1, Auburn at No. 12, LSU at No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Florida at No. 17 and Tennessee at No. 25.
