Colorado-UCLA keys to the game

Establish the Run Early

UCLA’s defense has allowed 1,113 total yards of offense in those two games, including 567 total rushing yards. UCLA is currently ranked No. 125 in total defense, and is dead last in the country in rushing defense, allowing 307.5 yards per game. In other words, Colorado needs to give senior RB Phillip Lindsay the ball early and often. If Lindsay can move the ball with ease, the Buffs should have a good shot to knock off the Bruins.

Get third down stops

UCLA is ranked No. 31 in third down conversions, converting at a 44.44 percent clip. Colorado is ranked No. 26 in third down defense, only allowing 29.82 percent of third down conversions. This is a strength on strength matchup. Colorado needs to get Rosen and company off the field and control the tempo of the game.

Pressure Rosen

Rosen has done a good job of avoiding sacks so far this season and the Bruins only allowed a single sack on the road against Stanford last Saturday. However, the UCLA offensive line is an issue and one that Colorado needs to exploit. UCLA’s rushing offense is ranked No. 104 in the nation. The Buffs need to do everything in their power to force the Bruins to run the ball. The team cannot allow Rosen to beat them through the air, The best way to get Rosen off of his game is to bring the heat.
