Guerin Emig of the Tulsa World has a bold proposition for the Oklahoma State Cowboys: never kick another field goal.
Emig argues that because you don’t have a definite thing with your field goal kicker, and because you have such a juggernaut offense, there’s no reason to go for three points when you could get seven.
It’s not that crazy of a proposition. A lot of Oklahoma State’s field goal scenarios were ones that the Cowboys would’ve had a good chance to get, and it would’ve made a significant change in the final score.
Oklahoma State might have to get healthier on the offensive line if they’re going to make this strategy work though. Offensive line struggles doomed the Cowboys against TCU, and they almost did OSU in against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were able to get some pressure and force Mason Rudolph into some bad spots, which can’t happen against better teams.
