First-year coach Dan Mullen has yet to coach a game at Florida, but his impact on the program can already be felt.
Florida is going through a culture change this spring, and it’s evident to fans, media members and recruits. The open practice last Saturday was not only an exciting atmosphere, but a breath of fresh air, as well.
Recruits were treated like royalty, reporters received much better field access and more than 1,000 fans got a glimpse of the new-look Gators. What they saw was a well-conditioned, much-improved football team receiving some top-notch coaching from an experienced SEC staff.
Having watched Mullen and his assistants operate over the last few months, it’s clear these guys know what they’re doing with every aspect of the program. From recruiting to player development, there’s a plan and vision for what things should look like.
Mullen learned the blueprint for championships as Florida’s offensive coordinator and built his Mississippi State program with that foundation. Savage was asked what makes Mullen successful as a coach.
“His attention to detail and his mindset to every day,” Savage said. “There’s nothing that gets left behind. Every single day from the beginning to the end, we know what’s going on, what’s expected of us, what’s expected of the kids, how we’re supposed to coach. I think his attention to detail and his persistence to being great is what separates him.”
