Dan Patrick explains why Johnny Manziel’s pro day performance doesn’t impress him

Dan Patrick provided thought-provoking commentary on Johnny Manziel’s comeback attempt.

The commentator addressed the former Texas A&M quarterback’s try to reboot his football career in a video clip released by The Dan Patrick Show’s Twitter account Friday. On Thursday, Manziel was seen working out for NFL scouts at the University of San Diego’s pro day. It marked the first time the Heisman Trophy winner had publicly thrown for NFL teams since playing for the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

Patrick wants to see more from Manziel, though.

“Now you have to earn your way back, and maybe he will,” Patrick said on his show. “More importantly, maybe he has just turned his life around. He got married. Hopefully, he is clean and sober and he understands. Maybe he understands where he is in this sports landscape. And that is you’re just a speck. You’re a celebrity. … I want to see a little bit more from him. And to have a pro day where you’re throwing to receivers and it’s scripted, that doesn’t help me at all.”

That’s fair commentary from Patrick. Only so much can be learned from a controlled event such as a pro day.

Is Manziel truly passionate about football? Or does he miss the attention the game offers him? Those are questions that can only be answered with Manziel’s actions as he tries to earn another NFL opportunity.
