Desmond Howard wants to see Alabama play power Big Ten team in national championship game

Desmond Howard has his best-case scenario in mind for the national championship game.

On Sunday, the ESPN analyst used Twitter to say that he would like to see Penn State meet Alabama (or Clemson) for the national title later this season. It’s an intriguing possibility, given the Nittany Lions’ rise under former Vanderbilt coach James Franklin.

As of now, it’s hard to see Alabama losing to Penn State if the programs meet. After all, the Crimson Tide have looked dominant in every way in recent weeks. They crushed Vanderbilt 59-0 before trucking Ole Miss 66-3 on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Penn State, meanwhile, still must prove itself against Ohio State and Michigan later this year. Alabama appears to have fewer tests, with the SEC looking shallow behind Auburn and Georgia at the moment.

We’ll see how the season shakes out. But watching Alabama face Penn State would be fun, no doubt.
