The Duke Blue Devils didn’t move and stayed at No. 5 in the AP Top 25 on Monday.
Duke is one of the hottest teams in the country, having won five straight games. The Blue Devils aren’t just winning either; they are dominating. This past week, Duke beat Louisville and Syracuse at home by an average margin of 21.
During the winning, the Blue Devils have also beaten Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Clemson. The Blue Devils defeated the Tigers on the road when Clemson was ranked No. 11 in the AP Top 25.
Ironically, the winning streak began when Duke’s leading scorer, freshman forward Marvin Bagley III went out of the lineup with a knee injury. That led to a lot of media speculation about how the Blue Devils might actually be better without Bagley, but that was probably put to rest Saturday when Duke defeated Syracuse, 60-44, and Bagley led the team with 19 points.
In addition to Duke, the ACC had three other teams in the AP Top 25 this week. Virginia remained at No. 1 after beating Georgia Tech and Pitt last week. North Carolina extended its winning streak to six games with its victory over Syracuse on Monday and moved up to No. 9.
Clemson rebounded from three straight losses and beat Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Tigers still dropped in the AP Top 25, though, to No. 18. After rejoining the poll last week, Florida State lost to N.C. State and fell out of the AP Top 25.
