ESPN’s latest college football power rankings were revealed on Sunday, with a new team, the Clemson Tigers, at no. 1.
After demolishing Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday, there is no doubt that Dabo Swinney’s program is firing on all cylinders at the moment. However, Clemson’s ascension to the top spot means something notable for SEC fans: Alabama is, for the moment, no longer no. 1.
Of course, it’s difficult to imagine what else the Tide have to prove at this point following their dominant 66-3 win over Ole Miss on Saturday. Nick Saban’s teams have seldom looked as dominant as they did against the Rebels, and many other publications still have the Crimson Tide atop their rankings.
So while there’s no shame in being no. 2, it’s probably fair for Alabama fans to feel a little disrespect after seeing where their team slots into ESPN’s rankings this week. As long as they continue to win, however, it ultimately won’t matter.
