North Carolina will face Notre Dame on Monday with a very important set of eyes watching them inside the Dean Smith Center.
Five-star forward E.J. Montgomery will take an unofficial visit with the Tar Heels, his father E.J. Montgomery Sr. told 247Sports.com. He has also scheduled unofficial visits with Duke on Wednesday and Kentucky on Feb. 24.
Montgomery is ranked as the 12th-best player in the Class of 2018, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. He is also considering South Carolina, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, USC, UCLA, Clemson and Georgia.
The 6-foot-10, 200-pound forward originally committed to play for Bruce Pearl-led Auburn back in September 2016, but reopened his recruitment back in September of this past year.
After the departure of Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks following their 2017 national championship season, the Tar Heels have moved to a more guard-centric style this season, led by senior point guard Joel Berry. Landing Montgomery would be an important step for North Carolina if it wants to return to its traditional inside-out style of play that the program has been known for in the past.
