GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Jim McElwain can add another title to his resume: Grandfather.
McElwain announced at his weekly press conference Monday that his daughter Hanna Major gave birth to a baby girl named Grace in Scottsdale, Ariz.. McElwain said he found out about it during practice in preparation for the Gators’ home game against Vanderbilt.
“Really, just the thoughts of your daughter is something special,” McElwain said. “About two days later my other daughter got engaged. Busy week.”
Major posted a photo to Instagram on Monday announcing the birth, saying Grace “is the biggest blessing to our little family!” and added that she weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long.
McElwain said he’ll be able to go out and visit after the recruiting cycle ends but added that “the beauty of iPhones” will help with communication in the meantime.
