Florida QB Luke Del Rio leaves Vanderbilt game with injury, Feleipe Franks takes over for Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio worked his way back from surgeries on both shoulders and a bad knee injury to play this season and ultimately reclaim the starting job this week.

But he was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with what appears to be a left shoulder injury.

Del Rio was well behind the line of scrimmage on a broken play, looking to make something happen on third-and-13. He found Brandon Powell open for an 11-yard gain while taking a hard hit after releasing the ball.

He stayed down on the field for a few moments before walking slowly to the sideline.

No official update on his injury or status has been given.

Redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks, who started Florida’s first three games, has taken over at quarterback.

Del Rio, who replaced Franks in the third quarter last week at Kentucky and let a late comeback, was 7-of-11 passing for 64 yards.

Franks completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 372 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception over Florida’s first three games.
