Florida recruiting: Latest updates on Gators’ class

The dead period is over and it’s now crunch time for the Class of 2018.

Florida coach Dan Mullen and his 10 assistants will be on the road recruiting throughout this month and they’re scheduled to host several official visitors in the coming weeks.

Where Florida’s class ranks

Florida’s 2018 class is ranked  No. 17  nationally and  No. 6 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Composite. Eight of the Gators’ 14 commits are 4-star recruits. Florida has the SEC’s third-highest average star rating (90.57) behind Alabama (92.51) and Georgia (93.40).

Latest news

The Gators welcomed eight early enrollees to campus this week, but one of them was dealt stunning news Thursday. Miami safety Randy Russell was diagnosed with a heart condition that will end his playing career.

Florida lost a pledge Wednesday from 3-star wide receiver Corey Gammage, who had been wavering on his commitment since the coaching changes. UF also added WR transfers Trevon Grimes and Van Jefferson to the roster.
