Former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu got paid this week, signing a one-year deal with the Houston Texans after a successful five-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals.
His former college coach, Les Miles, was reportedly thrilled for his old player.

“Not only am I proud, his teammates are proud,” Miles told Fox 26’s Mark Berman.”He goes back to (New Orleans) and he puts on a free clinic for underprivileged kids. The point is, if I can do it, you can do it. He’s a spectacular man.”
Miles and Mathieu clearly have a special relationship. It’s not often a coach continues to keep in touch with a player he had to kick off the team — but that’s what happened here.
Mathieu was kicked off the LSU team in August of 2012 after a series of incidents that left Miles no choice. But through all of that, the two remain close:

Mathieu has developed into one of the best defensive backs in the NFL since his time at LSU. In five seasons, he has 308 tackles, 11 interceptions and 41 deflections. He also has 4 sacks in his career.
His best season came in 2015, when he earned Pro Bowl honors after picking off 5 passes, scoring a touchdown and had a career-high 17 deflections.
