Illinois will have a new starting quarterback this week for the Iowa game: Jeff George Jr.
Illini coach Lovie Smith announced the decision Monday afternoon. George takes over for Chayce Crouch, though Cam Thomas will also be available.
Illinois plays at Iowa at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game is on the Big Ten Network.
Crouch struggled in Illinois’ 28-6 loss to Nebraska on Friday. Crouch was 9-for-15 for 99 yards and an interception. He also had 18 rushing attempts for 37 yards.
George saw action in Illinois’ 47-23 loss to South Florida. George was 12-for-22 passing for 211 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Last season, George passed for 470 yards, 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Crouch passed for 249 yards but he also rushed for 176 yards.
