Internet roasts Sam Darnold after USC’s upset loss to Washington State

When Sam Darnold fumbled on USC’s final play, it essentially ended any chance of a comeback for the Trojans, who fell to No. 16 Washington State 30-27.

But it was Darnold’s pedestrian performance throughout the entirety of the game that had the internet buzzing, and most of it was reserved for people claiming the USC signal-caller and Heisman-hopeful was not nearly as good as advertised.

Darnold, playing behind a banged up offensive line (starting left tackle Toa Lobendahn didn’t make the trip after getting staph infection, and USC also lost starters Chuma Edoga and Viane Talamaivao during the game to injuries) could not find any sort of comfort zone, and struggled mightily, in what might be his worst game as a college player to this point.

He finished 15-for-29 for only 164 yards and one interception. Though he did finish with two rushing touchdowns, it was not enough to help the Trojans escape the Palouse with a win, and the USC and Darnold haters came out in full force all night.

The loss essentially ends Darnold’s Heisman campaign before the calendar even hits October. Yes, USC could still rally to win the Pac-12, but with injuries mounting and their uninspiring play so far this season, he’d need to have utterly incredible performances to warrant serious consideration.
