Iowa wrestling vs. Penn State key matchup

149: No. 2 Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) vs. No. 1 Zain Retherford (Penn State)

These wrestlers have battled four times previously with Retherford winning all four. Two were decisive, including in last year’s semifinals (fall, 2:37) and in the 2016 NCAA championship (10-1 major decision). But two regular-season matches were tight, including last season’s 9-8 double-overtime victory for Retherford in Iowa City.

Sorensen is 18-0 this year, and Retherford is 21-0. This is the first of three possible meetings between the foes this year.

“You’ve got to stay on the attack, you’ve got stay in there focused, and know who your opponent is and do what Sorensen does best,” Brands said.
