One of Iowa’s top recruits will receive some hardware for his senior season of high school football, as linebacker Jayden McDonald has been named Georgia’s Defensive Player of the Year.
McDonald is a 3-star recruit, according to 247Sports, and normally plays the outside linebacker position. The Georgia Coaches Association (GACA) named McDonald as the 2017-18 recipient of the award for his season at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga.

GACA also named McDonald to its 2017-18 All-State team.
247Sports has McDonald as the No. 49 overall outside linebacker in the 2018 recruiting class. In the state of Georgia, McDonald is ranked as the No. 79 overall prospect. Nationally, he is ranked No. 782 overall.
McDonald will join an Iowa football team that finished with an overall record of 8-5, which included wins over Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa State and Boston College, with the latter coming in the 2017 Pinstripe Bowl.
