Jevon Cater has lead the West Virginia Mountaineers all the way to the Sweet 16 with his gritty defense and solid shooting.
Because of his performance so far, Bleacher Report has ranked him No. 5 in their Top 20 Players of the Sweet Sixteen.
Carter is averaging a staggering 24.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 steals per game in the NCAA Tournament, and has lead the Mountaineers to two dominant victories over Murray State and Marshall.
Carter will have a much tougher defensive test in his next game against Villanova. The Wildcats are the No. 1 seed in the East bracket, and have also pounded their two opponents so far. They haven’t scored less than 81 points in their two tournament games.
West Virginia’s vaunted press defense and Carter will be a tougher nut to crack, though. If Carter can get it done, it will be the first time since 2010 that the Mountaineers have advanced past the Sweet 16.
