The Flordia Gators are already without running back Jordan Scarlett and wide receiver Antonio Callaway. And now they will be without another elite skill player in Tyrie Cleveland.
Cleveland, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the Vanderbilt game, will not be able to play on Saturday because of that injury, Jim McElwain told the media on Wednesday.
“To this guy’s credit, he was in there working his tail off to try to get back and play,” McElwain said. “I think that speaks for not only him but a lot of guys on this team. But when you’re truly hurt, one thing you can is only make it worse and prolong it. When he’s right and ready he’ll be out there so he’ll miss this game.”
Cleveland is Florida’s leading receiver this year and a huge target for quarterback Feleipe Franks. The two connected on Florida’s Hail Mary against Tennessee.
The Gators will take on LSU on Saturday at 3:30 pm. The game will be played in Gainesville.
