Jim Tressel will not enter Ohio senate race

Jim Tressel-Ohio State football-Ohio senate-2018

Despite many Ohio Republicans hoping that Jim Tressel would run for the state senate, the former Ohio State football coach brought an end to those wishes on Thursday.

Tressel took to Twitter to say that he was appreciative of the acknowledgment, but also that he will remain at Youngstown State University where he serves as the school’s president.

Here is Tressel’s tweet:

Tressel received praise from several officials in a Washington Examiner story on Wednesday for both his team and university management skills.

Tressel coached at Youngstown State from 1986-2000 before coming to Ohio State. In Columbus, Tressel led the Buckeyes to a 106-22 record in 10 seasons before possible NCAA violations brought his tenure to an end. With Tressel at the helm, the Buckeyes won 5 conference titles and the 2002 National Championship.
