The Kansas fans behind the billboard criticizing athletic director Sheahon Zenger say he forced the billboard company to take it down after just one day.
The billboard went up outside Topeka, Kan., on Tuesday, bearing a quote from ESPN’s Dan Le Batard that called Kansas football “the most incompetent thing I’ve seen in major sports.” Now fans on Twitter and Reddit claim it has been taken down, and they’re blaming Zenger.

A Reddit user shared an alleged letter from Lamar, the billboard company, notifying the purchaser that the billboard was being removed on Wednesday.
However, the notice only says Lamar was exercising a contractual right to remove take the billboard down. It does not mention Zenger’s name. The letter just says, “Sorry it came to this but we felt this move was necessary.”
The billboard was paid for by the creators of Save Kansas Football, a web site calling for Zenger to be fired because of the state of the Jayhawks football program.
Since Zenger was hired in February 2011, Kansas has won 12 football games. He hired Charlie Weis, who went 6-22 in less than three seasons in Lawrence, and David Beaty, who is 3-33 in three full seasons.
Here’s what the billboard looked like before it was taken down.
