Kansas State basketball will face Loyola Chicago at 6:09 p.m. ET on Saturday in Atlanta in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will be broadcast live on TBS.
The 9-seed Wildcats upset 5-seed Kentucky on Thursday night 61-58 to advance to the regional final in Atlanta. Forward Xavier Sneed posted a career game with 22 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out. The Wildcats snuck into the NCAA tournament, and beat Creighton, UMBC and Kentucky to reach the Elite Eight.
Guard Barry Brown is leading the Wildcats with 16.3 points per game in the tournament. The Wildcats have reached the regional final despite missing All-Big 12 First Team forward Dean Wade with an injury. He is questionable to return for the matchup with Loyola Chicago.
Loyola Chicago is headed to the regional final since the first time since 1963, when the Ramblers won the national championship. The program upset 6-seed Miami, 3-seed Tennessee and 7-seed Nevada to reach the Elite Eight. Loyola Chicago’s three tournament wins have come by a combined four points.
The Wildcats have faced off against Loyola nine times in program history. Kansas State holds a 5-4 edge over the Ramblers in program history, including a 74-61 win in the most recent matchup in 2011.
This is the first time a 9-seed has faced an 11-seed in a regional final of the NCAA Tournament.
