Kentucky football: Pregame notes and observations ahead of Eastern Michigan game

LEXINGTON, Ky. — It’s starting to feel like fall just in time for Week 5. Kentucky and Eastern Michigan kick off at 4 p.m. ET Saturday at Kroger Field.

Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of Kentucky’s Nate Northington breaking the SEC color barrier. Northington made history when he played against Ole Miss on Sept. 30, 1967.

Kentucky is honoring Northington in a number of ways. The Cats will wear his No. 23 on the back of their helmets and Northington walked beside Mark Stoops during the Cat Walk.

As for other pregame notes, players are just starting to make their way on the field. Kentucky cornerback Derrick Baity, who’s questionable to play today, was on the field earlier wearing headphones. It’s unclear if he’ll suit up.

Kentucky is looking to move to 4-1 on the season. We’ll have updates throughout the game.
