  • Mark Stoops opens his press conference by sending thoughts and prayers to those in Las Vegas.
  • As for injury updates, Stoops said receiver Charles Walker is banged up. He didn’t give an update on Jordan Jones.
  • Mark Stoops said the playing down to the level of their competition is an overblown narrative. He did say his players were crushed by the loss to Florida.
  • Eli Brown, who’s filling in for the injured Jordan Jones, is also banged up, Stoops said. But Stoops said he’s impressed with the job Brown has done.
  • Stoops said redshirt freshman Drake Jackson did some good things at center, outside of the first play when he started slow. Stoops said the “trust factor” was the thing they were waiting on.
  • Stoops was asked if Josh Allen is on the same level as Bud Dupree was: “Bud was a bad dude … “Josh is a bad dude sometimes.”
  • Asked about Josh Paschal: “He’s done a lot.”
  • Stoops said they hope to redshirt Naasir Watkins. There’s still a chance Watkins could play.
  • Stoops said Lynn Bowden played about 20 snaps last week and he’s looking for that to increase.
  • Stoops said there was a focused effort to involve more of the freshman receivers this week.
  • Biggest concern about Missouri? Stoops said Tigers quarterback Drew Lock can make all the throws.
  • Stoops on them being banged up just before the bye week: “You drive your car to run it empty, and then you refuel.”
  • The plan is to redshirt running back Bryant Koback, Stoops said. He’s in the same position as Watkins. Both had the chance to break into the rotation, but it looks like they’ll be held back.
  • Stoops said there’s some frustration that set in with Benny Snell and the team. “You can’t ever panic.”
  • Stoops on Phil Hoskins, who played for the first time Saturday: “We feel like he’s going to be a very good player. He’s got some size, he’s twitchy. He’s going to be a very good player for us.”
  • It looked like Stephen Johnson might’ve been banged up on Saturday, but Stoops said he’s fine.
  • Stoops said Dean Hood and unselfishness has contributed to the good special teams play. He said plays like the blocked punt on Saturday are “game changers.”
  • Charles Moushey was double teamed on Saturday in punt coverage. Stoops called it “a sign of respect.”
