Jim McElwain is long gone from Florida, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be the subject of clever newspaper headlines in the Sunshine State.
On Friday, the Tampa Bay Times’ Matt Baker used Twitter to publish an image of a headline above a brief story about the former Gators coach taking a staggering loss when selling his Gainesville home. The 11,000-square-foot house sold in late January for $1.4 million, which was $400,000 less than he paid for it in May 2015.
McElwain parted ways with Florida in October after posting a 22-12 record from 2015-17. He was named Michigan’s wide receivers coach in February.
Check out the headline below, which appeared in the Tampa Bay Times. You must admire the use of “takes another loss.”
As you can see in the tweet from the Tampa Bay Times’ sports department, The Associated Press apparently came up with that headline. Bravo to the mind responsible. It’s not a stretch to consider that a frustrated Gators fan was involved.
