The Louisville Cardinals football program has added a potentially intriguing non-conference matchup to their future schedule by adding games against UCF.
According to the Louisville football Twitter page, the Cardinals have added UCF in a home-and-home series that begins in 2021.
On Sept. 18, 2021, the two teams will match up in Louisville at Papa John’s Stadium. The following year, on Sept. 17, the two teams will meet again in Orlando at Spectrum Stadium.
Central Florida is coming off an undefeated season where they claimed a national championship despite not being invited to the College Football Playoff. And they presumably weren’t invited because they didn’t play a strong enough schedule, so they’re now taking steps to beef up their non-conference slate.
Adding an ACC opponent should give them future opportunities to show that they can compete with an above-average program in a Power 5 conference. But schedules are always reactionary and it’s incredibly difficult to project whether non-conference games will have value down the stretch because schedules are made years in advance and it’s tough to tell where either your program or your opponent’s program might be at when the game is actually played.
Either way, it makes for a potentially interesting matchup, so if UCF can keep the momentum going and Louisville continues to be a strong ACC team, it should make for a couple of great games.
