BATON ROUGE, La. — In the light of the bombshell Yahoo Sports report on the LSU basketball program from Sunday night, the LSU athletic department released an official statement on Monday.
“LSU has confirmed with NCAA officials that there is no active investigation into the men’s basketball program,” the statement read. “LSU Athletics stands for full compliance and partnership with the NCAA and the SEC.”
Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported Sunday night that the NCAA had been investigating LSU basketball coach Will Wade for his actions on the recruiting trail. In the report, Thamel wrote that the NCAA had no concrete evidence of any wrongdoing and the investigation had stalled in its exploratory phase. Thamel also had LSU athletic director Joe Alleva on the record saying the NCAA had not reached out to LSU to inform the school of an investigation, reaffirming what LSU’s Monday statement says.
In his first year as LSU basketball coach, Will Wade has amassed the No. 3 recruiting class in college basketball and the best in the SEC, inking two 5-stars and two 4-stars for the Class of 2018.
Wade is scheduled to meet with the media at 5 p.m. CT on Monday to discuss the allegations, as well as the upcoming final two games of LSU’s regular season. Be sure to check back to SEC Country throughout the day for more updates as they unfold.
